It is my tremendous honor to serve as the 49th President of the Pasadena Guild of Children’s Hospital, Los Angeles. The Pasadena Guild, as one of the first affiliate groups established to support CHLA, has a deeply rich and collaborative history with the Hospital. For more than seventy years, the Guild has worked to raise more than thirty-four million dollars for the Hospital, successfully completing eight Guild endowments and one capital campaign project. We are privileged that our partnership with CHLA allows miracles to happen for children every day.
Our two primary fundraisers, the Treasures and Trivia rummage sale and the June Debutante Ball, are woven into the fabric of Los Angeles and the San Gabriel Valley with widely respected community support. Recently, the Guild has embarked on our newest project, endowing the Pasadena Guild Chair, Pediatrician-in-Chief and Senior Vice President, Academic Affairs, currently held by Robert E. Shaddy, MD. In addition to his leadership role at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, Dr. Shaddy is conducting critical worldwide clinical trials designed to create lifesaving protocols for children with pediatric heart failure and pediatric heart transplantation. Our membership has committed to raise $3 million dollars to endow this vital chair in support of Dr. Shaddy and his groundbreaking work to prevent heart failure in the youngest and most vulnerable of our population: the children.
I am grateful to work with our talented and dedicated Board of Directors and the entire Pasadena Guild membership. The Guild is a strong group of supremely capable and committed members who strive to bring hope and compassion to the young patients of Children’s Hospital and their families. I am proud that our support will allow future generations of children to live happier and healthier lives.
All the best,
Mrs. James Nelson Shelton, II (Sarah)
